Are all NuTone fans the same size? ›

Broan-NuTone® fans come in different sizes. To make sure you get the correct grille/cover on the first try, we'll give you a list of compatible grilles/covers just by telling us what your current one looks like. Select the bathroom grille/cover that looks like your current one.

A bathroom 50 square feet or smaller needs a 50-CFM fan. For bathrooms between 50 and 100 square feet, estimate approximately 1 CFM per square foot. If your bathroom is larger than 100 square feet, tally the CFM requirements for the individual fixtures to estimate your needs.

Choose a fan that can ventilate at least 1 CFM per square foot of room. So, for an 80 square foot bathroom, select an 80 CFM fan. For bathrooms 50 square feet and smaller, it's recommended you purchase a bath fan designed for small rooms. In other words, choose under 79 CFM bath fans.

Remove the lens. Remove the reflector mounting screw. Remove the reflector and grille. The model number is located on the inside edge of the housing.

The date of production/manufacture or age of Nutone® HVAC equipment can be determined from the serial number located on the data plate.

The Bottom Line. While older bathrooms were often served by one 15-amp circuit, a new or remodeled bathroom generally requires at least two circuits—a 15-amp or 20-amp general lighting circuit and a 20-amp outlet circuit. A third 20-amp circuit may be required to power the vent fan if it includes a heat lamp.

Circuit for Lighting and Fan

Each bathroom must have the electrical wiring and capacity for a light and an exhaust fan, at minimum. Fans are used to ventilate the bathroom area. This circuit should be a 20-amp circuit in order to accommodate both features.

We recommend running the fan continuously, 24/7. By running it all the time, the fan can be set at a lower, less noisy speed. Fans typically cost around $7-$15 per year in electricity costs to operate continuously.

Can I replace a bathroom fan myself? ›

Remove the old fan, hook up the ductwork and wiring, attach the new housing and you're done. No-cut bathroom fans will fit into the standard existing hole in your ceiling or wall.

If you need to replace an existing bathroom vent fan, you should call a licensed electrician. They can troubleshoot your existing fan, upgrade fan wires, repair the exhaust fan motor, or replace the unit entirely. While some electricians will also do the ductwork and venting, most will only handle the wiring.

Replacing a bathroom ceiling fan can seem a daunting task, but it's actually quite a bit simpler than most people would imagine. Under ideal circ*mstances, it's as simple as installing a new part where the other had been, then touching up any trim or blemishes from the replacement.

On a fan with an even number of blades, determine the fan diameter by measuring from blade tip to blade tip on a straight line through the fan axis as shown. 2. For fans with either an even or odd number of blades measure from the blade tip to the center of the hub (as shown) and multiply by 2.

Compare the fan blade sweep, or diameter, to the room's square footage to determine the right ceiling fan for your room. Install a fan with a 42-inch sweep in rooms up to 144 feet. Install a fan with a 44-inch sweep in rooms from 144 to 225 feet. Install a fan with a 52-inch sweep in rooms from 225 to 400 feet.

The dimension given is the outside width of the fan, not the distance between mounting holes. Common sizes include 40 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm, 92 mm, 120 mm and 140 mm, although 8 mm, 17 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm, 35 mm, 38 mm, 45 mm, 50 mm, 70 mm, 200 mm, 220 mm, 250 mm and 360 mm sizes are also available.

Small Rooms up to 100 square feet = 29 to 36 inches. Large Rooms up to 400 square feet = 36 to 50 inches. Great Rooms over 400 square feet = 50 to 71 inches.
