The open textbooks on this page include several titles published through Saylor Academy’s Open Textbook Challenge and a collection of titles re-published by Saylor Academy in 2012.

Many know Saylor Academy for these books, but our main efforts go into creating open online courses. We encourage educators to use our courses, in whole or in part, in their own classrooms. Visit our course site to find more textbooks and curated open educational resources (OER).

  • Saylor Academy does not own the copyright to any books on this page. Each book’s open license is an agreement between you as the end user and the copyright holder.

Are Saylor Academy exams open book? ›

Good to know. The information on this page applies to the proctored credit exams for our credit-recommended courses. These exams are closed-book and closed-notes: only the extra resources on this page can be used on the exams. The allowed materials for an exam will also be shown when you launch your proctoring session.

Is Saylor Academy regionally accredited? ›

However, Saylor Academy is not accredited to award degrees itself and not all accredited higher educational institutions accept credit earned for courses at Saylor Academy. It is important to check with the specific institution to check their policies regarding transfer.

Are saylor exams hard? ›

It depends on how familiar you are with the material. In general, I'd say no. Saylor courses tend to be a little chaotic, with material pulled from multiple sources. The upshot is that you end up covering more material than is really on the final, and some of it will be repetitive.

Do you need to study for an open book exam? ›

Study: Preparation is key!

Remember, open book does not mean that you don't need to prepare or study! This is even more important if your open book exam is timed. Because open-book exams require you to use “higher levels of thinking”, you won't just be asked about facts or to recall.

Courses in the Saylor Direct Credit program include a proctored credit final exam in addition to the normal certificate exam. The credit exam provides a recommendation for credit from ACE upon completion. Passing the proctored credit exam is the ONLY way to earn the ACE recommendation for credit for your course.

Once time is up, even if you have not finished your exam, you're required to hand in the exam to your proctor. Open book. Students can use their textbooks, course materials, and notes during the exam if they need them! However, you can't use the internet or saved files to help with the exam.

CPC exam basics. The CPC exam is open book. You'll be given 4 hours to complete 100 multiple-choice questions. Passing will require you to answer 70% of the questions correctly.

I just passed the Saylor CS107 non-proctored final exam, and it was pretty easy, even without any knowledge of C++, because the syntax is pretty similar to Java, which I'm familiar with. And it was all pretty simple multiple choice questions.
